Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 06 laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations in 27 states and Union Territories across the country via video conferencing which was attended by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.Commenting on the significant development, Sinha said, “In terms of road and rail connectivity sector in the last four years, Jammu and Kashmir has established several records. This is certainly phenomenal. Railways are the lifeline of the country. Today progress is knocking on every corner of J&K. Now J&K will be able to contribute to building a self-reliant India with new energy.” The 508 railway stations are spread across 27 states and UTs, of these, Jammu and Kashmir will have three stations under the redevelopment scheme with Budgam, Jammu Tawi, and Udhampur on the list. The project aims to boost ‘Ease of Living’ and enhance comfort as well as convenience under the historic Amrit Bharat Station Scheme which was launched to redevelop 1,309 stations across India. The redevelopment will provide modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well-designed traffic circulation inter-modal integration and well-designed signage for the guidance of passengers. The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage, and architecture.
