Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, said that the Expert Committee has been formed to examine the legislative competence of the State Legislature to enact a law to end polygamy in Assam, submitted its report. Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, “I have not read the report. The expert committee in its reports said that the state government is competent to enact this law. The only thing they mentioned was that the final signature would be given by the president. Within this year, this law will be implemented.”Earlier in a Tweet, Himanta Biswa Sarma, “Today, the Expert Committee, formed to examine the legislative competence of the State Legislature to enact a law to end polygamy in Assam, submitted its report. Assam is now closer to creating a positive ecosystem for women’s empowerment irrespective of caste, creed, or religion.” Member of Expert Committee Nekibur Zaman said, “Assam CM HB Sarma had constituted an expert committee to examine the legislative competence of the State Legislature to enact a law to end polygamy. We’ve prepared our report and submitted the report to CM today. Now, the government has to do its duty regarding this law.”
