Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom organised an awareness camp on National Handloom Day to boost Kashmiri art in Srinagar. It aimed to revive the handloom industry with new schemes introduced by the government recently. A number of experts from the handloom industry gave specific lectures to artisans and made them aware about the importance of this industry. A number of stalls including Pashmina shawls, and woolen products were also installed by well-trained artisans apart from live demonstrations. Experts also screened a special documentary film about the manufacturing of handloom products which attracted a good number of visitors, especially young artisans. Notably, artisans have a lot of issues including proper marketing and satisfactory rates for their products. During the past times, artisans faced a very tough time due to the unstable atmosphere and non-availability of proper which resulted in them not showing proper interest in the handicraft or handloom sector. But for the last few years, the handloom industry is improving and artisans are also doing good work due to the hard efforts of the department and initiative. Now, artisans are getting a lot of information about the handicraft and handloom industry with the help of these programs.
