To celebrate the digital release of the critically acclaimed sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the first ten minutes of the animated outing have now been released. Much like Miles Morales and Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy is struggling to balance having an ordinary life with being a superhero, as she finds herself being hunted down by her own father, police captain George Stacy, before meeting Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099 for the first time and being thrown into the madness of the multiverse like never before. The footage once again reveals the stunning animation on display, as each universe and character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is given their own unique look. No doubt many cannot wait to revisit the sequel as it lands on digital release from today.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reunites Gwen Stacy with Miles Morales as the pair encounter a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence in the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. But, when Miles clashes with their leader, Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099, on how to handle a new threat, he finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must soon redefine what it means to be a hero, so he can save the people he loves most.
Starring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, Mahershala Ali, and Oscar Isaac, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was met with critical acclaim upon release back in June and has since garnered a massive $683.8 million at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Will Feature Gwen Variants Aplenty
While we await our return the Spider-Verse in the finale, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it has been revealed that the sequel will feature all manner of Gwen Stacy variants. Asked recently whether Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will give us different version of Gwen, writer and producer Phil Lord replied “Currently, yes,” with his fellow writer and producer Chris Miller adding, “Currently, yes. I would say that, yes.”
Of course, things could change before the follow-up hits screens, but the pair revealed that there is one Gwen variant in particular that they are excited to explore. “But there’s one I’m very excited about,” Lord said before Miller added, “Yes, I know exactly the one you’re talking about. You know the one I’m thinking of, which is based on… I’m not gonna say anything. I’m not gonna say anything. But it is sort of plot-integral, I would say.”
Unfortunately, we could be waiting a little longer than expected for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, as the sequel is now subject to major delays due to the ongoing strike action currently taking place in Hollywood.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is due to be released digitally on August 8, 2023, with the movie landing on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 5.
