Minister of State Ministry of External Affairs V Muraleedharan on August 08 reacted sharply to the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly against Uniform Civil Code. Talking to ANI, V Muraleedharan said, “It’s surprising for everyone that on the first day of the Kerala Assembly instead of discussing the issue of rising price hike in the state, both the opposition and the ruling front decided to have a discussion on the UCC, on which even a draft has not come out. And this discussion happens especially in the context of an allegation, a major protest that is going on against the speaker of the Kerala assembly who denigrated Lord Ganesha the other day.”Notably, the Kerala Assembly on August 08 passed the resolution unanimously against UCC. Calling the Centre’s move a “hasty action”, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that the implementation of the UCC would topple the Constitution’s secular character. Kerala is the first state in the country to pass such a resolution in its assembly against the proposed law.
