He was admitted to the hospital on July 10 with chronic liver disease and bronchopneumonia. His condition had improved in the subsequent days, but he suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday. A hospital bulletin said he was on ECMO support for the past two days. Film director B Unnikrishnan and actor-director Lal who was a close associate of Siddique announced the demise.
The mortal remains of Siddique will be kept at Kadavanthra Indoor Stadium from 9am to 12pm on Wednesday for the public to pay respects. The burial is scheduled at Ernakulam Central Juma Masjid at 6pm.
Siddique directed 20 movies in four languages
Siddique Ismail was born to Haji Ismail Ravuthar and Zainaba in Kochi on August 1, 1956 (as per medical records) as the second of eight children. He is survived by wife Sajitha and three daughters Sumaya, Sara and Sukoon.
Siddique has directed 20 movies, including five in Tamil, one in Hindi (Bodyguard) and a Telugu movie. He also wrote scripts for 25 movies in different languages.
His mega hits include ‘In Harihar Nagar’, ‘Godfather’, ‘Vietnam Colony’, ‘Kabooliwala’, ‘Hitler’, ‘Friends’, ‘Chronic Bachelor’ and ‘Bodyguard’. The Siddique-Lal duo had won the state award for the best film for ‘Godfather’ in 1991
